The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services (MET) says Malawi over the past four days experienced excessive hot weather but the condition should ease by November 6.
In an interview on Wednesday.MET principal meteorologist and head of public weather service, Yobu Kachiwanda, said the hot weather experienced in the most parts of the country is due to the warm airflow from the indian Ocean.
He said:”There is persisting warm north easterly airflow from the outgoing high temperature areas passing over the Indian ocean as pressure continues falling off the south east coast of South Africa.
“We will update the nation on whether these hot conditions will persist beyond November 6.”
In a press statement issued on Tuesday,MET warned that many places will experience a maximum temperature of over 4 degrees Celsius more than the long term average.
Maximum temperature forecast for Mzuzu is at 32 degrees Celsius and monthly absolute maximum at 35.7 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile Blantyre maximum temperature forecast for Blantyre is between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius. Managochi maximum temperature is between 37 to 40 degrees Celsius with monthly absolute maximum at 40 degrees Celsius.
Ngabu weather condition is estimated to be between 40 to 43 degrees Celsius and monthly absolute maximum at 40 degrees Celsius.
Speaking when he issued a rainfall outlook for 2021/22 rainfall season. MET director Jolam Nkhokwe warned about the possibility of floods due to climate change.
