Solar Photovoltaic Electrical Technician, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), says the solar installation project being implemented in Nkhata Bay, Mzuzu and Karonga will equip youths with solar energy skills.
The organisation’s project manager Diliza Nyasulu said this on Monday in Karonga when they handed over a Toyota Hilux motor vehicle and office furniture to Marianist Institute of Rural Artisan for Christian Life Education Technical College.
The donation follows the completion of the organisation’s three-year project to construct classrooms, libraries, computer laboratories and workshops at Mzuzu Technical College, Zayed Energy and Ecology Centre in Nkhata Bay and Marianist Institute of Rural Artisan for Christian Life Education Technical College in Karonga.
He said: “The project, which started in 2017, has ended after infrastructure development and training of instructors in solar installation in three technical colleges.
“We expect more people to learn how to install solar panels.”
The college’s acting dean of students Madalo Bula thanked the organisation for introducing a solar installation course at the centre.
Victoria Kisewe, a third-year student in solar installation, said she was now a qualified solar energy technician who can install solar energy water pumps and stand-alone energy solar panels.
“The course has also equipped us with entrepreneurial and communication skills,” she said.
