Electricity Generation Company (Egenco) has brought 32.4 megawatts (MW) back to the national grid at Kapichira Power Station.
This brings the total power currently being generated at the station to 97.2MW.
This means that three of the four machines, with a capacity of 32.4MW each, are now operational.
Egenco senior public relations officer Moses Gwaza said in a statement made available to Business News on Monday that the machine went back online on Sunday afternoon and works to bring back all machines at the power station is progressing well.
He said: “Our engineers worked tirelessly to ensure that the machine is brought back into service the soonest after arrival of the spares.
“We believe that once the travel restrictions around the world due to the Covid-19 are lifted, the spare parts and the commissioning engineers from Germany will be in the country to work with our team to finalise the work.”
Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom) spokesperson Innocent Chitosi said the resuscitation of the machine at Kapichira has led to a reduction in load shedding by 4.5 hours in a day effective Monday, down from the seven hours that were experienced last week.
