Namiwawa Primary School alumnus Mazunzo Chimasula has urged former learners to help improve the schools that moulded them into what they are today. He said this on Wednesday when the school’s alumni planted trees at their former school situated in Blantyre.
“Alumni should give back to their former schools that made them who they are. As we know, most schools are in bad shape; so the alumni can contribute something, go back to the school and paint or maintain the structures”.
“We should not leave everything in the hands of government. We are also part of the schoos and we must do something,” he said. Chimasula, whose private agro-based firm TAC-MAZ Imvestments donated moringa tree seedlings towards the initiative, said the move will also contribute to efforts to fight climate change while the moringa tree will be used as a food supplement as it is rich in protein, among other nutrients.
Namiwawa Primary School Parents-Teachers Association chairperson Enoch Brighton Zuze said the tree will help improve the school’s environment. The school’s headteacher Eunice Namale thanked the alumni for the gesture. urging them to continue finding solutions to more challenges facing the institution.
Apart from the moringa seedlings, other members of Namiwawa Primary school alumni Association, which started recently as a Whatsapp forum, brought other types of trees such as bluegum.
