THE Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) has said the proposed 60 percent tariff hike by Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom) over the next five years will crash the economy. MCCCI Chief Executive Officer, Chancellor Kaferapanjira, was speaking in Blantyre on Monday during public hearing of Escom’s base tariff application. Among other things, Escom proposes a tariff increase of 53 percent in the first year of operation
