In a groundbreaking initiative, Renew’N’Able Malawi (RENAMA) is set to revolutionize the lives of pupils and villagers in Kapsyepsye II, Bvumbwe Thyolo.
On August 7th, the organization held a meeting at Namachila Primary School, unveiling plans to build a greenhouse, drill a borehole, and install solar power at the school and nearby nursery school. The project aims to address the crippling issue of energy poverty in rural Malawi, where access to electricity and clean water remains a luxury.
Sub Traditional Authority Goodson Galaciano expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’m very happy about the project. I’m willing to support RENAMA for its success.”
Group Village Headwoman Kapsyepsye II painted a dire picture of the current situation. “People are suffering since our borehole was stolen. They walk kilometers to fetch water in the nearby village. This project will bring a huge difference to our village.” Her words underscored the desperation and resilience of the community.
The impact on education will be significant. Headmaster John Pangani highlighted the benefits, saying that the solar power will make a positive change at the school, as the learners, especially standard 8 pupils, will be able to study during the night, preparing well for their national examinations.
In an interview with PTA Chairperson Edwin Mawaya echoed this sentiment. “Our children have been suffering when it comes to study time because they had to study with candles. But when this solar power comes, things will not be the same at all,” he said.
RENAMA’s initiative has been met with widespread support from the community. The project’s success will be a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation in addressing energy poverty.
With support from EKOenergy, RENAMA is poised to make a lasting difference in rural Malawi. As the project breaks ground, the people of Kapsyepsye II eagerly await the transformation. Clean water, reliable electricity at the school, and a thriving greenhouse will soon be a reality.
