Modern cooking project bears fruits in Mzimba

01 Aug 2024

Modern cooking for health forest (MCHF) Project has started bearing fruits in Mzimba District.

Speaking on Monday, MCHF Project lead programme management-forestry specialist Wezzie Chisenga said It has achieved milestones such as improved law enforcement and provision of beekeeping equipment worth K21 million.

Chisenga said the project also supported the M’mbelwa District Council in developing the District Forest Landscape Restoration Action Plan (2021-2030).

He said the project empowered stakeholders such as the Malawi Police Service, Department of Forest, traditional leaders and communities in the management of Bunganya and Perekezi forest reserve.

“This has boosted demand for alternative energy sources in urban areas, resulting in slowing deforestation in some reserves and stronger local governance structures,” said Chisenga.

Mzimba district senior forest officer Misozi Shaba said the decision stand as a beacon of sustainable development and climate change resilience driven by strategic investment and community engagement.

“The MCHF Project’s success story is a testament to the power of collaborative efforts in fostering a sustainable future for Malawi,” she said.
