Installation of solar-powered water supply systems at Bingu National Stadium is expected to be completed just in the time for the 2020 season kick-off, it has emerged.
The project, which is a donation from Foundation for Irrigation and Sustainable Development (Fisd), started in September this year.
Minister of Youth and Sports Ulendo Msungama said the station owners were excited with the progress of the problem.
He said: ”The long-awaited solar powered water supply project at Bingu International Stadium is nearing completion by our very own Fisd, a local borehole drilling company which generously donated their resources, expertise and time to help set up the first solar-pumped system to help water our grand stadium. This is an obvious example of nothing for us without us.”
When completed, Ministry of Youth and Sports is expected to save at least K7 million which it spends on water bills monthly.
”As a ministry, we are so grateful to Fisd for their gesture in the spirit of Nothing For Us Without Us.”
”This is a deal, and the winners are us, Malawians, who will continue to enjoy top-notch sport and activities at the stadium with the availability of clean potable water.” said Msungama.
Fisd marketing and communication manager Wezzie Chiumia said the project is a manifestation of Fisd’s commitment to develop sports in the country.
Apart from solar water supply project, Fisd also sponsors a national football competition, the Fisd Challenge Cup.
Launched in 2016, the competition is the only cup that involves both lower leagues and TNM Super Leagues teams.
