Kumudzi Kuwale Limited, a company working on a solar plant in Mchinji, says 300 households will be connected to electricity by the end of May in the company’s first phase of the Solar Energy Project.
The company’s project officer Jeffrey Kasambandopa said the project will benefit four villages of Sitolo, Ndawambe, Molosiyo and Chisenga in Traditional Authority Mlonyeni in the district.
He said this on Monday when police in the district conducted a civic education exercise to sensitise communities to the need to take care of the facility ahead of its opening at the end of the month.
The project is expected to generate 81.6 kilowatts of electricity.
In his remarks, village head Sitolo said the project will boost businesses and attract investors who will create job opportunities for the residents.
“This is a good development and we are very happy that we will soon have electricity. We are excited that our area will develop,” he said.
Mchinji Police Station general duties officer Superintendent Joachim Chasweka urged the people to own the project and guard the panels against vandalism.
He also pledged security to ensure that the facility achieves its intended purpose.
The project is funded by United Nations Development Programme.
