Electricity tariffs up 7%

IMG_2011 (2).JPG
15 Aug 2018

As the country awaits a Malawi Regulatory Authority (Mera) Board verdict on whether to grant sole power distributor, Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom) 60 percent electricity tariff hike, the power utility has this month silently hiked the power charges by seven percent. The development has seen K1000, which was buying 18.5 units as at July 14, 2018, now buying 17.6 units. Escom Public Relations Manager, Innocent Chitosi, confirmed the price hike but was quick to say it was not a silent hike.
