Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) has advised people in Machinga and Balaka to grow more exotic bamboos which they say can be an alternative to depleted hardwood trees. Speaking at Senior Chief Liwonde headquarters in Maching aduring the handover of a food security and water and sanitation hygiene (Wash) project, the society’s president Levison Changole said one of the project’s objectives was to enhance bamboo production as an alternative to trees.
