Hydro-Power Electrification for Ruarwe Primary School Computer Lab and "Nyumba ya Masambiro"

At the end of 2011 Phunzira installed solar panels at "Nyumba ya Masambiro" to be used free-of-charge by community members for educational purposes, but with insufficient power to run multiple laptops simultaneously. Mulanje Electricity Generation Agency: A commercial approach to off-grid power in rural Malawi

This venture aims to bring locally generated electricity to rural off-grid Malawian communities through micro-hydro power generation. The first micro-hydro scheme on the Lichenya river on Mount Mulanje is already providing power to households and the clinic in Bondo community. Project partners Practical Action and the local conservation trust, MMCT, have recruited a GM for the new company, MEGA, and conducting feasibility studies for the next two schemes.

Bondo MHS

Catalysing modern energy service delivery to marginal communities in Malawi. The introduction of Micro hydro power stations (MHS) is to adopt and applying community based management models in establishment of accessible and environmentally friendly modern energy technologies. The project is being implemented through partnership with a well known NGO Mulanje Mountain Conservation Trust (MMCT) of Malawi who are operating in their targeted communities.
