The Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) process in Malawi is slowly getting into gear. After the first kick-off meeting in 2013 supported by UNDP, Scottish Government and other donors to make stakeholders aware about the SE4All initiative and emphasize the role of private sector and civil society in the process, as well as the Renewable Energy Symposium in August 2015 where SE4All was one of the focus topics, another important gathering is currently taking place at SilverSands Lodge in Salima.
Through the SE4All Africa Hub, the African Development Bank (AfDB) is now supporting the development of the SE4All Country Action Agenda and Investment Prospectuses in four new countries:Malawi, Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo and Zimbabwe, along with Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda, which are already supported. Consulting firms were recruited in response to Government requests under the Africa Climate Technology Finance Center and Network, a recent GEF project implemented by AfDB.
The Energy Access Action Plan delivered by the Sustainable Energy for All Initiative (SE4All) to the G20 Energy Sustainability Working Group was adopted on October 2 in Istanbul at the G20 Energy Ministers meeting. In particular, it lends its support to collaborative efforts such as those of the SE4All Clean Energy Mini-Grids High Impact Opportunity (HIO) including the Africa-focused Green Mini-Grid Market Development Program.
