Moving Ahead: Driving Action on SDG #7 at COP22

MARRAKECH, Morocco - COP22 closed with renewed calls to fast-track action and maintain the highest possible level of ambition in combating climate change, while ensuring universal access to sustainable energy.

This year’s UN climate change conference was held less than a year after the Sustainable Development Goals came into force and the historic Paris Agreement was struck at COP21 – an Agreement that came into effect just days before the Marrakech talks opened.

Emissions Gap Report: We Are on Track for Warming of 3.2°C

3 November 2016: The seventh edition of the UN Environment Programme’s (UNEP, or UN Environment) ‘Emissions Gap Report’ finds that the emissions level resulting from full implementation of all unconditional intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs) would lead to a temperature increase of 3.2°C until 2100. It thus urges enhanced pre-2020 action to achieve the agreed objectives of the Paris Agreement to limit an increase in temperature to 1.5°C.

Marrakech Climate Conference-COP22

The twenty-second session of the Conference of the Parties (COP22) and the twelfth session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP12) opened today, November 7, at the Bab Ighli village site in Marrakech with the election of COP 22/CMP12 President Salaheddine Mezouar and the official transition from the French COP21 to Moroccan COP22 Presidency.
