TotalEnergies Malawi and Afrox Malawi have unveiled a strategic partnership to offer liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at selected service stations nationwide.
The initiative was launched in Blantyre on Friday where TotalEnergies Malawi commercial manager Luwani Nyasulu highlighted the company’s commitment to providing affordable, reliable and clean energy solutions.
He said: “By introducing LPG, we are not only expanding our energy portfolio, but also reinforcing our dedication to environment stewardship and sustainable development.
“LPG is a versatile and efficient energy source that burns cleaner that many other fossil fuels, producing fewer pollutants and greenhouse gases.”
Nyasulu said Malawi faces environmental challenges, particularly deforestation driven by the demand for firewood and charcoal cooking.
“The widespread use of firewood and charcoal is not only depleting our forests, but also contributing to soil erosion and biodiversity loss.”
“By providing an alternative like LPG, we can significantly reduce reliance on wood-based fuel, , thereby preserving our environment,” he said.
Afrox Malawi customer engineering services and maintenance supervisor John Kaitano said the partnership is expected to boost LPG sales.
“The use of LPG is a step in the right direction as it serves as a substitute for charcoal,” he said.
