Cooperation Network for Renewable Energy Malawi (CONREMA) is looking for the services of a competent web designer and developer (individual) to re-develop CONREMA to create a user-friendly database for Renewable Energy projects in Malawi with a strong visual appeal and an international documentary showcasing of CONREMA work. The need for a renewed website arose due to our staff’s difficulties in changing and adding structure, layout as well as content aspects to the website. The website is currently running on the content management system (CMS) “Drupal”.
The website also needs a donation system linked to our donor database, a robust constituent relationship management (CRM) system for active constituent engagement and personalized content, and the ability to manage constituent engagement directly through the website.
- Background Information
CONREMA, the Cooperation Network for Renewable Energy in Malawi, provides an exchange and learning platform for all stakeholders involved in the design, implementation and analysis of energy projects in the country or in related policies and strategies. It provides members to enjoy various opportunities for linking up, exploring synergies and establishing partnerships. Through their member profile in the capacity database, their contributions and experience can be presented to other stakeholders in the sector.
CONREMA with support from UNDP want to strengthen information sharing in the renewable energy sector by re-designing its website and online database to accommodate new and old projects taking place in Malawi in the energy sector. The website has a database of all news, policies and projects in renewable sector. Given the changing trends in web design since, we feel that our current website needs to be redesigned for the needs of our audiences. We are therefore seeking the services of an individual to re-design website for CONREMA.
2. Scope of the Assignment
Under the guidance of Renew’N’Able Malawi the service provider will be expected to undertake the following tasks:
- Evaluate the necessity of developing a completely new website and using a different content management system (CMS) (like WordPress) vs. keeping and changing the old website and keep using Drupal as CMS
- Develop a layout and structural draft for the website
- Integrate an effective search function; with google map function for location search
- Investigate and propose options to set up a constituent relationship management (CRM) system;
- Develop a user-guide for the website and the CMS, complete with the most common troubleshooting guidelines;
- Train a minimum of three CONREMA staff on how to manage the new website CMS and CRM;
- Following an internal appraisal process, install the website on the server, and if necessary transfer all archived content from CONREMA current website to the new website (images, text, embedded video, PDFs, HTML, photo albums, etc.);
- The website should incorporate links to the social media pages of the featured organizations/projects
3.0 The website should have the following features:
3.1 Site design:
- An attractive graphic layout that embodies CONREMA’s corporate character and meets CONREMA branding specifications;
- Modern, Interactive and user-friendly
- Mobile friendly and responsive design;
- A design that allows regular improvements on look and features.
3.2 CMS:
- Most importantly the CMS should offer the possibility of user registration
- these registered users should have enhanced access and modification possibilities, that are restricted to “normal website visitors”
- The CMS should be dynamic and allow information to be easily updated by administrative staff without specialized web development skills;
- it should be able to manage large amounts of traffic, data and an array of file types including embedded video, audio, photo albums, HTML, PDF, and similar
- Ability to incorporate all CONREMA social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.) with live update options; google map locations
- The CMS should allow the use of a donation system linked to our donor database
- Ability to work well with search engines; SEO
- Should be able to display Google maps locations
- CMS should either be the latest version of WordPress (preferred) or Drupal.
3.3 CRM (should include, but not be limited to):
- An e-newsletter function with email and text blasting options;
- Ability to host subscription options
- Fully integrated online fundraising, including capacity for personal fundraising;
4.0 Website content can mostly be directly taken from old CONREMA website; additional contents to be put onto the website can be discussed later in personal
5.0 Time-frame
- To be agreed upon, but we are looking at a period not exceeding 30 days from signing contract.
6.0 Minimum Qualification and Capabilities Required
- Adequate knowledge and at least two years of progressive experience with web design proven through a verifiable portfolio of similar designed websites and/or databases;
- Experience with WordPress and/or Drupal CMS, open-source, proprietary and custom solutions;
- Experience developing interactive websites that allow for user-engagement;
- Experience with constituent relationship management (CRM) systems who can share relevant examples of establishing CRMs for multi-national non-profit organizations;
- Experience developing websites for non-profit organizations (optional).
7.0 Application Requirements
- A detailed resume and portfolio containing candidate’s or firm’s qualifications and experiences with samples of previous work (e.g. web links to previous work that can be independently be verified by a third party);
- Financial proposal based on the deliverables outlined in the TORs;
- Proposed timeline of delivery;
- Email addresses and phone numbers of two accessible referees familiar with the candidate’s work.
