On January 31, 2018, President Peter Mutharika commissioned diesel generators that added 55 megawatts (MW) to the national grid—effectively reducing power blackouts that have for some time annoyed our ulcer.
This is in part a fulfilment of what the President said when he opened the 47th Session of Parliament on November 10, 2017 in Lilongwe.
As short-term measures, he promised to install 70 MW solar power plants and 78 MW diesel- powered generators this year. The President also promised the rehabilitation of Nkula A and Tedzani III hydropower plants to increase generation by 22 MW this year.
