Naari Group a grouping of Lilongwe-based women with diverse cultural and professional backgrounds – on Saturday donated a K10 million three-kilowatt solar power system to Mlale Mission Hospital in Lilongwe.
Naari Group Chairperson, Nisha Hament Tanna, said the donation aims at easing challenges the facility is experiencing in providing healthcare services, particularly in the theatre, due to incessant power outages.
“We pray that the equipment will come in handy and will be extremely useful for the operation of the theatre at this hospital,” Tanna said.
The grouping was established by wife to the sitting Indian High Commissioner to Malawi, Karuna Menon, in 2016 to reach out to the needy by providing various forms of support to the society.
Tanna said, since its inception, Naari has assisted school children in Mchinji, distributed blankets and medicines to flood victims in Lilongwe and medical supplies to Kamuzu Central Hospital, also in Lilongwe.
“At Naari, we are the People of like-minded disposition, driven by a Single passion, which is to make People happy, especially those Who need happiness. I hope, With the blessing of the Almighty, Naari’s spirit of helping the needy will spur others to join in our journey and help us keep the cycle of happiness going,” She said.
The hospital administrator, Sister Mini Thomas, commended the grouping for the donation, saying it would go a long way in alleviating problems associated with power challenges.
Thomas said the solar power system would enable them provide quality healthcare services to patients even amidst persistent power cuts.
Minister of Health, Atupele Muluzi, said, to minimise the challenge, the government is installing solar systems in public and faith-based health facilities across the country.
Muluzi said at least 85 facilities will benefit from die first phase of the project.
