The National Cook Stove Steering Committee (NCSSC) has embarked on a nationwide campaign to reach out to two million households with improved energy saving stoves by 2020.
Movement for Bioenergy Advocacy Utilisation Learning and Action (Mbaula) is supporting the ambitious initiative whose objective is to conserve the environment.
Mbaula secretariat coordinator Mbumba Mita Chigalu, disclosed in an interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana) on Tuesday that the committee wanted people to appreciate the benefits of using energy saving stoves.
“The idea is to reach out to as many people as possible with a variety of energy saving stoves to curb deforestation which Malawi is currently grappling with,” she said.
Chigalu said the campaign was launched on June 5 2017 which is World Environmental Day.
The campaign has a theme song ‘Ndapeza Mbambande’ by Sonye and Faith Mussa. The song carries a message that encourages Malawians to use environment-friendly products.
“Sonye and Faith Mussa were chosen to partner with us because they appeal to different audiences in the country,” she added.
