Renew’N’Able Malawi (RENAMA), Christian Aid and an upcomin group of active partners, with start-up support from HIVOS and Practical Action, have taken up the challenge of bringing awareness about the United Nations’ Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiative to all strategic stakeholders in Malawi for their support to a live-changing campaign against energy poverty.
The SE4ALL objectives are to provide universal access to modern energy services, doubling the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency and doubling the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix. Achieving these objectives would generate many more opportunities for improved business growth, job & market creation, education and health to all Malawians!!
That is why the coordination team was eager to kick-start a civil society movement to create concerted, effectful action and involve all concerned stakeholders to ensure sustainable access to healthy, reliable and affordable sources of energy to all Malawians.
As a first step to this, we are currently organizing a series of intorductory events for the new “Just1? Ener(gy)ustice” campaign in Lilongwe in April/May. These include full-day workshops for media makers, creative content producers & artists, opinion leaders and sustainable development promoters, private sector players and related actors. Parallel to these, we are facilitating the setting up of a national SE4All Civil Society steering group that will facilitate strategizing and coordination of SE4All related activities within the civil society. Be excited to learn more about our activities as we go along and – PLEASE BECOME PART OF THE MOVEMENT!!
